The tools and MIB library installations are included as part of the main package, but is provided here as a convenience.
Tools
The tools provide a number of small utility programs that display the internal activity of the ServerAssist services
and other background processes, provide system diagnostics and allow remotely deployed agents to be undeployed
without using the management console.
MIB Library
The MIB library adds a number of MIB files to the ServerAssist management console, so that more meaningful
information is displayed when browsing the object identifiers supported by SNMP-enabled systems.
Data Store Manager
The data store manager configures ServerAssist to use an SQL Server Express database. It installs
SQL Server Express 2005, creates the necessary data structures, copies existing data to the new database and
changes the ServerAssist configuration to store data in the new database.
Instrumentation
The instrumentation installation exposes key operational information for the
ServerAssist services as standard Windows performance counters.
This installation is only required when instrumenting remotely deployed agents.
Reporting
Reporting installs the ServerAssist database for SQL Server Reporting Services and some sample reports.
This installation is only required when making use of the
Data
Collection component of the management server.
Gateway
The gateway allows ServerAssist to be managed via an internet gateway - enabling monitoring of systems to
which no direct network connection can be established. This allows systems to be managed from outside the
corporate firewall without compromising network security.
Installed on a publicly-available web server, the ServerAssist components register with the gateway using HTTP, and
external clients connect to the gateway also using HTTP. The gateway acts as a proxy, relaying data between the internal
components and the external clients.
