Device Availability

Simple 'Ping'

ServerAssist can 'ping' any IP-addressable device on the network, and notify you when a device stops responding, or starts responding after a failure.
A simple 56 byte ICMP packet is sent to the device, making it an ideal method to check the availability of WAN links
Open quote ensure that both the device and the network are operational Close quote
with negligible impact on the available bandwidth of the link.

Devices and Networks

Although ServerAssist is actually sending an ICMP packet to a device, its device monitoring can be used to check the
availability of both the device itself and the network to which it connects.

Dropped Packets

Since some dropped packets are a fact of life in any large network, ServerAssist can be configured to respond only after a certain number of ICMP packets fail to arrive at their destination, reducing the number of very brief outages and other "false positives" that will generate a notification.
