Microsoft Windows systemsAll versions of Windows from Windows 2000 onwards can be monitored, either with a locally installed Windows agent or agentlessly over the network via a management server.Linux / Unix serversAny Linux or Unix server that supports the Host Resources MIB (RFC 1514) via SNMP can be monitored. Note that the default configuration of some distributions either does not enable SNMP, or only enables it for connections from the local machine itself. In these cases, additional configuration, typically of the SNMP daemon, will be required. When monitoring a VMware ESX host, additional configuration will expose information about each guest via SNMP. A script to enable this functionality is included in the resource kit. ApplicationsThe application monitoring component of ServerAssist analyses response times and availability for key applications on the network. Five types of application are supported:
Application monitoring assesses an application from an external perspective - assessing how performance would appear to end users. SNMP DevicesAny network hardware, such as a UPS, printer or environmental monitor that can be queried via SNMP can be monitored. Any numeric OID, or any textual OID that can be parsed as a number, can be monitored. |
