Data Management - Introduction

The data management component of a management server gathers data from multiple separate ServerAssist data stores, and merges it into a central, combined database. This allows in-depth analysis of infrastructure-wide information, highlighting patterns and areas of concern across the enterprise.

A management server runs a number of scheduled collections that each collect data from one or more computers. These collections can be at different times, balancing the need for up-to-date information with the demands on network bandwidth. The central database can be located on the same computer as the management server, or on another computer on the network.

Note that while it is expected that there will only be a single management server performing a data management role on a network, there is no technical reason why multiple management servers cannot be deployed, collecting data from different servers. It is also possible for multiple management servers to collect data from the same ServerAssist data store.
