Active Responses - Message Processing

The message processing settings control how the operations server connects to a mail server to poll for active response messages, and how those messages are processed.

Mail Server

The operations server can query either a Microsoft Exchange server or a POP3 server for messages. The messages must be delivered to the Inbox - there is no capability to search sub-folders in the message store.

Message Validation

The mail server is typically publically accessible, in that messages can be sent to it from external sources. While it is recommended that the corresponding e-mail address is not disclosed to third parties, a number of security options are available to prevent unauthorised use of the active response functionality.

Message Types

Depending on an organisation's policies, it may not be appropriate to allow all types of message to be processed.

Message Store

If a dedicated mailbox is allocated to the active response processing, any other messages, such as those broadcast to all users, will be found in the Inbox, but not processed by the active response processing. In this case, to avoid unnecessary messages being stored, ServerAssist can be configured to delete any unrecognised messages.
