The external server settings control how ServerAssist sends e-mails,
the details of any installed GSM model and where internal data is stored.
SMTP Server
In order to send e-mails, either as part of a
response or when generating
a scheduled status report, ServerAssist hands off all mail to a configured
SMTP server for further processing and delivery. Note that if the SMTP server
becomes unavailable, e-mails will be queued automatically, and delivery
retried periodically.GSM Modem
If a GSM modem is installed and configured, ServerAssist can send
SMS messages as part of a response to a monitored incident. The GSM modem will require a
driver that presents a virtual COM port that connects to the modem.Data Storage
By default, ServerAssist stores performance, alert and event data in its
internal database. This is a Microsoft Jet 4.0 database, and can be freely
queried using a number of third party tools. Should a high-performance or
large volume data store be required, ServerAssist can store data in an external
OLE DB data store. Note that all data stored is keyed by the name of the
computer from which the data came - this makes it possible for one external
data store to be used by multiple computers each running ServerAssist. |
