Can I monitor servers outside my LAN?
ServerAssist can monitor remote servers and is firewall friendly. Simply allow remote access and select
a TCP port. Please ask for a demonstration if you are unsure of the configuration.
How do I set up SMS responses to incidents for out of hours support?
ServerAssist allows you to send text based responses that can be converted to SMS by most service
providers. Simply choose the email address to send to and schedule the times and days the response should
be sent.
Can I use agentless monitoring over a WAN?
To a certain extent, it depends on the bandwidth and utilisation of your WAN. The recommended approach is to
install a management server at each physical location, and configure that management server to monitor machines on the
local network. A single management console can then connect to multiple management servers, and provide seamless
reporting and configuration across all monitored servers.
Can I monitor Linux and Unix servers?
Typically, a Linux/Unix server supports the Host Resources MIB via SNMP, and this allows ServerAssist to monitor
processor load, memory usage, disk space and processes. Also, most Unix/Linux servers expose key performance values
via SNMP, and these can be charted, and monitored to detect when the values cross a preset threshold. Note that you
many need to install or enable SNMP support on the machine before ServerAssist can monitor it effectively.
In addition, you can "ping" any IP address to verify that the device
at that IP address is responding.
Can ServerAssist send multiple responses to an incident?
Yes. ServerAssist is able to send multiple responses to the same incident or schedule different responses based
on the weekday or time. Also, ServerAssist supports incident-specific responses, where a response can be enabled only
in specific cases. For example, an e-mail could be sent to a DBA only when a database-related service failed, and to
a general network administrator in all other cases.
